From Kelowna to Hope...

This was the view from our hotel when we woke up in Osoyoos. Aren't the clouds a neat pattern?

Part of the town...

We decided to keep moving towards Kelowna, but went to the Burrowing Owl winery first. This is the Okanagan...miles of grapevines and fruit trees.

We were going to go to the Burrowing Owl for lunch but it was only 10:30...even early for us!

But we went in and tasted a few wines (not too early for that!) and bought a couple of bottles.

What a spectacular view from the winery...

We arrived in Kelowna. Jim has a high school friend, Al Bischoff, who lives in Kelowna, so he called him and we met him for a drink that night.

View from our hotel in Kelowna as the sun was coming up...

A hot air balloon was floating by...

Al had invited us to his house for coffee in the morning so we went over and met his wife, Chris. She had baked muffins (m-m-m-m-m!). They have a lovely home.

They were going to take us on a tour of the town, but we decided it was better to get to Hope. Although it's less than 3 hours, we tend to stop for pictures (and food!) and we wanted to get there before dark.

The bridge and marina in Kelowna. We didn't really do Kelowna justice with pictures. It is very beautiful (and busy!) there. We'll have to go back...

The first pass we went through in the mountains. Here we are nearing the top. Only a dusting of snow and bright blue sky. The clouds look like they are peeking over the top of the mountains...

Jim loves to watch Garmie on elevation mode. Sometimes it feels like you are going downhill, but you are actually climbing. We are at the top of the pass at 1745 m...

You can see for miles...

We stopped in Merritt for lunch. Its elevation is about 600 m and then we headed back up in the mountains again. This is Merritt in the distance. The topography reminds me very much of cowboy country as you would see in the movies. Dusty and big plains and hills...

One of several signs along the way...

Hmmm....wait a minute! What happened to sunny skies??

Beautiful four-lane highway all the way...and started to get a little snowy.

Wow...from sunny day to snowstorm in less than 30 minutes. The weather in the mountains...you never know when it will turn.

We arrived in Hope around 3:30. It wasn't a speedy drive! The next morning we took a drive around town. Hope has many wood carvings that have been completed using a chainsaw.

We are off to Nanaimo. Vancouver Island...we're almost to our destination of Tofino! It will be 7 weeks on Monday...
